You wake up in a sweat. You smell like fear and the thing under your bed knows it. You leap out of your bed and look around in the dark frantically searching for any sign of life. It’s just you, but what was that noise? It’s coming from the closet. You throw the doors open and see nothing but clothes. Again you hear it–scratching as though something were trying to claw its way out of hell. You run for the window–perhaps someone is outside? A cat maybe? You hope and the closer you get, the louder the noise. You see nothing out the window, but still the scratching is there and it’s deafeningly loud. What is that? Terror takes over your body and you’re frozen. Something slowly and gently strokes your leg and you feel drops of sweat fall onto my clothes. What is it? What does it want? Will I ever escape? You can’t run to hide or get out of here! “Someone help!” You scream, but your mouth is closed. It can’t open! You start into an outright panic. Your chest is heaving and your body pains as you try to move your legs. The hand has now tightened its grip on your ankle. You want to cry out, but your mouth is stuck shut tight. You begin to feel like you will never breathe again. Suddenly there are two hands pulling at you–dragging you. You try to fight to get out of their grip, but they grip tighter and drag you. Down you go, deeper and deeper under your bed. The darkness–the great engulfing darkness. It is only once you are deep within this darkness that you realize something you hadn’t before–it is you. The vile, dark part of you. The part you never knew you had. It’s dragging you. Down. Down.
Fear. Panic. Horror. Shock. All pulse through veins as you realize that within is a darker evil than you even knew. A part of you that remained hidden until the darkness fell and you begin to fear the demon inside. You put it under your head, but you can no longer remember when. For years he waited, grew. Darker and darker. Stronger and stronger. Until one night, he caught you. In your fear, he caught you.
You are now staring at him face-to-face. He smiles a sickening smile at you as you try to get away. How do you run away from your own evil–can you? The darkness deep within–can you escape your darkness? Staring down your own wickedness is a hard thing. You know that now. All those years of righteous deeds you’d thought you’d done; they all amounted to this thing under your bed. When did your righteousness become this demon under your bed? You can’t tell. When….when….when….You ask over and over. There is no answer. You can never know where it began, because you never thought of it as evil when you first let this demon under your bed. Now it is too late–he has come for you.
Hello all my darling avidReaders. I know the above is bleak and dark. I found it appropriate for Friday the 13th.
I wanted to tell you something. If this resonated with you in any way and you want to talk further, you know where to find my socials. DM me on Instagram or FB and just talk to me. I won’t judge you or get irritated and ignore you. I am never too busy for any of you.
God bless all of you, my darling avidReaders!💖 Have a lovely weekend. Happy Triskaidekaphobia day!
All throughout History, It’s always been a mystery. The most unlucky of days, On this day we change our ways. Careful what we do, Careful when we tie our shoe. Stay in and lock your door, Don’t get up off the floor. Black cats and spilled salt, The broken mirror is not my fault! Avoiding ladders and a sidewalk crack, Being on guard we do not lack. Some say it’s a day of fun, Others shiver, hide, and run. Some say it’s black magic that comes out today, Some say that it’s demons here to stay. Whatever your superstition on this very day, Everyone’s wits will shred and fray. The day of bad luck comes only so often, Let’s just pray it doesn’t lead to a coffin.
Happy Triskadeckaphobia Day all of you! God bless and stay safe!
Snow would be the easy way out—that softening sky like a sigh of relief at finally being allowed to yield. No dice. We stack twigs for burning in glistening patches but the rain won’t give.
So we wait, breeding mood, making music of decline. We sit down in the smell of the past and rise in a light that is already leaving. We ache in secret, memorizing
a gloomy line or two of German. When spring comes we promise to act the fool. Pour, rain! Sail, wind, with your cargo of zithers!
Hi everyone. I saw this and found it fitting. All across the world I know everyone’s getting into the Christmas/Thanksgiving vibe, even in South Africa our stores are starting to play Christmas songs and put up decorations on Christmas trees. I wish you all a blessed Thursday and enjoy this time for holiday vibes–be it summer vibes or winter snowbells.
I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o’er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed—and gazed—but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.
Persistence, my friend; and determination: can mend all the wounds of misfortune; and the the scars of your past. Your scars and wounds stand nothing to time. For in time, no pain lasts.
So press on Press on, like they said in times where there was no choice but to press on. And you have no choice. for If you don’t, you will very soon be gone. That’s not to be morbid, and not to be grim, but you know that as well as I do, so it’s with persistence you must glow and with patience you must brim.
And not to say that you are weak, but the pain you feel is nothing unique. So persist, my friend. Do not fall with hard times: Press on and find the solace you so sincerely seek.
Stand up when you feel like you must fall. Stand up when you cannot stand. Stand up, anyway; and stand up tall. That, my friend, is greatness. To rise above your own self-doubt. To rise beyond limits. To rise above it all.
Persistence, my friend: Persistence is key; for until that fog clears up, you will not see your limitless potential and all the infinite beauty that lies not beyond the horizon, but just around the bend. I promise you will find it: But only with Persistence, my friend.
“Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” This quote covers, in the simplest form, the theory I am about to propose to you. Any of you blessed enough to be have watched or read this glorious story will understand.
As we go through this, I want you to keep the above tree diagram in mind as it basically forms the crux of the topic for our article. It is something I first became interested in while watching Fringe. The concept of having another you out there, doesn’t that intrigue you? There are obviously no ways to prove this. If you look at the above diagram, you will see that it starts out with one point and from there, as if roots from a tree, it spreads out. This is essentially the theory behind what physics now calls a ‘multiverse’ and science fiction calls ‘alternative universes’. The theory is that any one person (for now let’s call him Tommy) can make a decision that will then split and create another universe where other choices and, now realities, exist.
So let’s look at this in practice.
Tommy wakes up every morning 7 am for school. He gets dressed for school, then he goes down for breakfast at 7.20. He is then ready and on the bus by 8 am. He sits in the same place on the bus every day next to his friend.
The above is a typical day for Tommy. Now let’s see what happens if something goes wrong.
Normally waking up at 7 am, Tommy finds himself with a cold and thus cannot get dressed or eat breakfast. Obviously, as he is sick, Tommy does not catch the bus that day as he will not be attending school.
So now what happens?
Well, let’s suppose that Tommy spends all day in bed, he will not get dressed. This means less laundry for his mother. As he will not be eating breakfast, it will mean less dishes for her to wash. Tommy will then need to be taken to the doctor for a consultation and medication.
Both of these possibilities are available for Tommy, however, if we think of these as separate branches on a tree, we can see that Tommy has in fact got two possible ‘branches’ as it were to his tree. His life could lead him to one of those two possible branches. So let’s look at his normal day as branch A and then his sick day as branch B, then we can say from there that each branch has its own branch A and B as so on and so on until we have the tree diagram above. This also applies to your choices. Very much like the Butterfly Effect in time travel, we can think of our choices as the butterflies we tread on and any choice we make can in fact create a different timeline/alternate reality. If Tommy decided to go to school sick, he would’ve made his friend sick and thus the cold would’ve spread to other students, and let’s suppose one of those children has a weak immune system and dies, Tommy’s choice to go to school sick would’ve killed a child. However, because he did not, this child will survive and all will be as normal.
Two possible realities exist in this scenario and any choice we make can determine which reality we take.
Can I Go There?
Theoretically it would be possible, but the implications it would have on both realities would be devastating. Imagine you have a piece of paper and you push a pencil through it, it’s only one little hole right? Now imagine punching a dozen or so holes into that paper and you will find with each hole the integrity of the paper is compromised more and more. This is exactly what will happen if we one day develop the technology to travel between alternate realities.
You’re probably thinking, how could we even do this? Well, if you believe science fiction, and please let’s keep in mind this is all hypothetical, if you had to cross over the only way to do it would be to create a hole in the universe. This would mean creating a black hole like they are currently trying to do at CERN in Switzerland. This is scary as the likelihood of them actually doing more damage than good is something that needs to be considered.
I am telling you upfront, I am no scientist and do not claim to know all they do. What I can tell you is that, if what they say is true, parallel worlds should be left in peace. Your choices where you are right now, will affect you in THIS world. What happens beyond that, has nothing to do with you and you shouldn’t worry about it.
If you have anything else you’d like to add or any comments, post it in the comments for myself as well as all your fellow avidReaders. We’d love to know what you have to say! 😃
1Though I spake with the tongues of men and angels, and yet had no love, I were even as sounding brass: and as a tinkling cymbal. 2And though I could prophesy, and understood all secrets, and all knowledge: yea, if I had all faith so that I could move mountains out of their places, and yet had no love, I were nothing. 3And though I bestowed all my goods to feed the poor, and though I gave my body even that I burned, and yet had no love, it profiteth me nothing.
4Love suffereth long, and is courteous. Love envieth not. Love doth not frowardly, swelleth not, 5dealeth not dishonestly, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh not evil 6rejoiceth not in iniquity: but rejoiceth in the truth, 7suffereth all things, believeth all things hopeth all things, endureth in all things.
8Though that prophesying fail, or tongues shall cease, or knowledge vanish away: yet love falleth never away. 9For our knowledge is unperfect, and our prophesying is unperfect: 10but when that which is perfect is come: then that which is unperfect shall be done away. 11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I imagined as a child: but as soon as I was a man I put away childishness. 12Now we see in a glass even in a dark speaking: but then shall we see face to face. Now I know unperfectly: but then shall I know even as I am known. 13Now abideth faith, hope, and love, even these three: but the chief of these is love.
Remember, remember! The fifth of November, The Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot! Guy Fawkes and his companions Did the scheme contrive, To blow the King and Parliament All up alive. Threescore barrels, laid below, To prove old England’s overthrow. But, by God’s providence, him they catch, With a dark lantern, lighting a match! A stick and a stake For King James’s sake! If you won’t give me one, I’ll take two, The better for me, And the worse for you. A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope, A penn’orth of cheese to choke him, A pint of beer to wash it down, And a jolly good fire to burn him. Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring! Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King! Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
